How many questions do you need to get right to pass the PTCB exam?
There’s no fixed number: the PTCE reports a scaled score from 1,000 to 1,600, and passing is 1,400. In practice that corresponds to roughly the low-70s percent correct on the 80 scored questions — our simulator anchors its estimate at 72.5% and publishes the whole model.
How hard is the PTCB exam?
Hard enough that 31% of attempts failed in 2025 (69% pass rate across 49,253 exams, per PTCB). The difficulty is uneven: most candidates are sunk by one weak domain — usually Federal Requirements or the math inside Order Entry — which is exactly what a full-length diagnostic exposes before the real thing does.
